What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is the evidence based version of the Pilates Method. The original exercises were refined by physiotherapists to encourage correct muscle activation and to prevent unwitting injury from poor body positioning. Clinical Pilates classes are normally kept to a small number of participants and are supervised by a Physiotherapist, rather than a Pilates Instructor, which adds an in depth knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology, healing and function to the exercises prescribed.
In summary, Clinical Pilates is a safe and comprehensive form of rehabilitation. Think ‘fast food pilates’ vs ‘gourmet pilates’. Which do you think is better for your body?

Why choose Bodyfix?
By learning at Bodyfix Pilates West Harbour, you will be taught to complete Pilates exercises in a neutral spine position. Recent studies show that this position encourages the optimal contraction of your transversus abdominus – one of the major muscles that is part of your ‘core’ or ‘centre’ that you target during Pilates.
To ensure you maintain your neutral position, it is important to perform each exercise with precision and to work at the right level for you. Working at too high a level can reduce the effectiveness of the method and create imbalances or injuries. While at Bodyfix we focus on performing the exercises properly because when done right, more is not better. We want to work smarter, not harder, and this is why we place so much importance on technique.

The first time Aimee participated in a Pilates class, she attended as a reluctant teenager with her mother.
The second time, it was entirely of her own volition. After earning her BHSc in Physiotherapy, Aimee chose to start her career in a private practice and was happily ensconced fixing the injuries of others when she started to experience occupational back and neck pain herself. She had always enjoyed treating spinal injuries, but her empathy and interest increased as a result, and she started to base her ongoing education around posture and the spine.
After achieving her credentials as a McKenzie therapist, she decided to train in clinical Pilates, as it had become such a staple in her personal life. The more she learnt about Pilates, the more she felt it complemented her existing style of treatment and advice.
Aimee wholeheartedly believes that getting to know her clients well enhances any treatment offered. She is passionate about posture, body awareness and self care. She feels that taking care of your body should be part of your lifestyle – after all you only have one!
When not lecturing clients, family and friends on posture, she is running around after her young daughter, attending cardio boxing or decorating cakes.
